Rust repairs before protection

If preparation exposes holes, heavy pitting or failed metal, the vehicle needs proper repairs before any underseal warranty can make sense.

Repair standards matter

When the underside becomes thin or holey during preparation, there are usually three options: repair it properly, carry out a more basic patch repair where appropriate, or stop the work if the vehicle is not economically viable.

We keep you in the loop with photos and clear advice. If larger repairs are found, you can come to the workshop, see the vehicle lifted and decide how you want to proceed.

Common levels of underside repair

The old RustOust process categorises repairs by scale so customers understand what has been found.

Mini repairs

Small areas of pitting or tiny holes found during preparation.

Minor repairs

Several small holes, heavier pitting or limited local metal replacement.

Midi repairs

A combination of smaller repairs or wider corrosion across more than one area.

Major repairs

Significant holes, structural sections or multiple areas needing welding and fabrication.

What happens if repairs are found?

  • We stop and document the problem with photos where needed.
  • We explain whether the work is required for safety, warranty or long-term protection.
  • We give realistic repair options and discuss cost before proceeding.
  • Repaired areas are protected before the rust proofing treatment continues.
